- Check the Warranty: Stain-resistant warranties can vary from 5 to 20 years; all requiring regular cleaning and immediate spot removal
- Vacuum, Vacuum, Vacuum!: often – once or twice a week; removes sharp soil that can cause pre-mature wear
- Have Carpet Professionally Cleaned Often: to keep traffic areas less soiled and keep fibers from heavy abrasion; once per year preferably and stain-resistant carpet cleaning recommended every 2 years
- Remove Spots Immediately: sooner you remove the spot, the less likely a permanent stain will result
- Have Carpet Protected: Dupont Teflon, 3M Scotchgard, or EncapuGard Green
Carpet Protectors – What We Use Because They Work
Dupont Teflon/Teflon Advanced
- Forms a molecular shield around the fiber which lowers the surface energy causing the carpet to repel liquid spills, dust and dirt
- Prevents dirt and stains from being ground into or absorbed by the fibers
- Repels acid-based stains, wet and dry soil
- Dries quickly, no odor, CFC and solvent free
- Works on variety of fiber types, including wool
3M Scotchgard
- Improves fibers’ resistance to water-based stains and every day soiling
- Not intended to be used as a waterproofing agent; however, it does provide resistance to water-based substances
- Scotchgard Protection and Stain Release Warranty requires carpet be cleaned by professional hot water extraction at least every 2 years to maintain warranty
- Most common household liquids can be easily blotted up even if the spill does not “bead up”
- Effectiveness depends on traffic patterns, exposure to soiling and stains and proper cleaning and maintenance
- Will last approximately 1 year in residential and 3 months in commercial sites
EncapuGard Green
