Picking a vacuum is difficult.
It’s not the most exciting purchase of your life.
It can be expensive.
And it’s nothing you’re going to brag to your friends about.
But it’s absolutely crucial.
In this blog post we’re going to provide you some insights on vacuums we recommend, along with some thoughts to take with you next time you’re in the market. If you value the health of your family, the longevity of your carpet or the cleanliness of your home, this blog post is for you. Enjoy!
Purchase approved vacuums.
When it comes to purchasing a vacuum it’s important you understand what kind of vacuum you need (obviously). However, what’s less discussed is what vacuum is approved. That’s why we recommend our clients purchase vacuums that are Carpet & Rug Institute (CRI) approved. Learn more about how CRI is providing industry recommendations for installation, cleaning, and maintenance for all types of carpet here.
Understand your type of carpet.
Equally as important as choosing an approved vacuum is understanding what type of carpet you have. The most common types of carpet are Nylon, Wool, or Polypropylene, and it’s important for you to understand that each has a different density, length, and cleaning need. To be specific with your home’s carpet, consult the manufacturer on their recommendations regarding cleaning and maintenance. The more you know about the type of carpet you have, the more prepared you’ll be to purchase a vacuum that is approved by the CRI and right for your home.
What happens if you don’t.
If you don’t purchase a vacuum that’s CRI certified and/or that’s right for your carpet, you’ll be doing yourself a disservice. Unfortunately, these vacuums:
- Make dirt (and other debris) airborne in your home.
- Put more wear and tear on your carpet.
- Make it easier for you to lose out on your carpet’s warranty.
- Your carpet doesn’t actually get clean.
Here’s what we recommend.
As we mentioned above, there are a few factors that dictate how you should be choosing a vacuum. However, our best recommendation is that you purchase a CRI approved vacuum. You can find a full list of recommendations here.
A few of the vacuums we recommend include:
- Kirby Avalir 2: Clean confidently with this upright home vacuum.
- Sanitair EON Quiet Clean: The vacuum we use in our client’s homes.
- Hoover UH30010: Remove stubborn dirt with this option.
A good rule of thumb after you choose your vacuum is to use it once per week (and more frequently in high traffic areas). Remember, your carpet doesn’t have to actually look dirty to be dirty.
