What you should know about pet odor removal.

Over the years we’ve received many phone calls regarding issues of pet odor in homes (these calls are even more prevalent in the Spring and early Summer). In this blog, our goal is to highlight some of the common items we’ve discussed with our clients on these types of calls.

The goal is not to discourage you to call us if you have any questions, but instead to educate you on things that may still be within your control. If you have any additional questions regarding pet odor removal, please don’t hesitate to give our team a call.

Beyond the smell.

The smell is only part of the problem. With every pet odor client we’ve worked with, our goal is to find the source location of the smell, but also to identify any additional damage that was caused from that pet’s original accident. The important thing to remember with this is that the damage goes beyond the smell. Specifically, where is the moisture going and what types of bacteria have grown.

What’s the solution.

Cleaning isn’t always the solution; neither is replacing the damaged area. Determining the appropriate solution truly comes down to assessing the situation correctly. For example, the size of pet you have, the amount of water they drink, and the location of the accident all have variable answers. With this in mind, we recommend having a professional assess the damage, in order to give you an appropriate solution.

Maybe not enzymes.

There are a lot of solutions on the market, but we’d like to point out one. If you’re going to use a product with enzymes, be aware that the bacteria created from your pet’s accident can actually feed off of the enzymes in these products. Pet urine, initially, is sterile. However, as it lives in the home, bacteria develops (which is actually the cause of the smell). Thus, if you’re already smelling the pet odor, enzyme products may not be the best solution. To learn more about the science behind this, feel free to give our team a call.

Pet odor removal is truly a case by case scenario due to all of the potential variables. We recommend that if you feel even the slightest bit confused about how to remove the odor, that you call a profession.

As always, we’re happy to help you restore your healthy environment.
